Nowadays, we are aware of the effects of the climate crisis: extreme events not only cause immediate damage, but their consequences also extend over time. Due to the notorious storm Vaia, millions of fallen trees have caused the proliferation of the spruce bark beetle, a native insect that has become a plague. This context is the starting point for Silvia Canton’s research and artistic experimentation, which focuses on the recovery of fallen wood and infested bark. This is how it came about the solo show Silvia Canton. L’amore finisce dove finisce l’erba. Dopo Vaia, il bostrico tipografo curated by Martina Cavallarin with Antonio Caruso, organised by Techne Art Service A.p.s, which takes place at the prestigious Sala del Camino of the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa di Venezia from the 30th of November 2025 to the 3rd of January.

The barks of fallen trees, collected personally by the artist, are destined to decompose in a short time and for this reason they became the soul of her artworks. Through their crumpled fibres and dense textures created by the spruce bark beetle, they express all the pain of the wounds inflicted by the effects of climate change and humanity’s senseless choices. Starting from this blight, the exhibition addresses issues that are deeply felt by the community, such as climate change, the fragility of natural cycles and the relationship between humans and the environment. In addition, the project aims to promote art as a language capable of generating awareness, dialogue and participation. It also encompasses a concrete scientific apparatus of texts and videos provided by professionals and teachers, including photographic/journalistic documentation with texts by Luigi Torreggiani and Pietro Lacasella, scientific supervision by Emanuele Lingua and Massimo Faccoli, and in-depth analysis of the macro-themes of Art and Science by Professor Emeritus Raffaele Cavalli.
